Fox Chicago Bears reporter Devan Kaney had some strong words for a Philadelphia fan who accused her of being a “Philly turncoat.”
Kaney, 35, was laid off from her position at Audacy-owned WIP as their sideline reporter for Eagles games earlier this year. She then joined FOX Chicago as its Bears reporter.
“Enjoy your Cubs, White Sox, Bears, Bulls & Blackhawks you Philly turncoat,” one fan tweeted at Kaney on Monday. “I guess everyone has a price.”
Kaney replied, “Yeah a price like getting paid a living wage. Getting real sick of Philly people attacking me for doing what’s best for my career. Maybe turn your attention inwards and ask why Philly sports media has so few opportunities for women or people of color instead.”
Kaney, a childhood Eagles fan, was named the sideline reporter for WIP’s Eagles broadcasts after Howard Eskin departed the station in late 2024 due to accusations of “forcibly grabbing” a woman, which he denied.
Kaney received support from fellow journalists and fans in her replies.
“I don’t think people understand how hard it is to get good jobs in this industry—but I digress,” Sports Illustrated Eagles writer Jeff Kerr replied.
Kaney also served as a weekend anchor and reporter for Fox 29 as well as an in-arena host for the Philadelphia Flyers at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
Kaney previously said she was “blindsided” by being laid off in April.
“It was naive of me to assume I was more valued than I was,” Kaney told bizjournals.com.
Kaney had a spot on one of WIP’s morning radio shows, and had signed a two-year extension with the network last year before Audacy’s layoffs.
