Chuck Schumer wore a giant bandage on his forehead for King Charles III’s speech — then offers off-the-wall explanation for why

News RoomBy News RoomApril 28, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer welcomed King Charles III to Capitol Hill Tuesday with a large bandage covering about half his forehead.

The New York Democrat was first seen with the bandage – and a small abrasion just below it –  Monday on the Senate floor.

The senator said he suffered the wound after a late-night encounter with an open door.

“Closet door was open late at night. It met my forehead,” Schumer (D-NY) told reporters.

The run-in with a door didn’t appear to affect the senator at all.

Ahead of the King’s speech, Schumer called it a “great honor” to welcome “his majesty” to the US Capitol Building.

“It has been thirty-five years since a British monarch addressed the elected representatives of the American people — the world has changed dramatically, but in many ways, the same tests remain before us,” the Democratic leader said.

“The visit of King Charles III should serve as a reminder to the President of the United States and to every elected official in this country: friends and allies matter,” he added.

Schumer, 75, has had a few minor health incidents over the past decade.

He was briefly hospitalized last year and treated for dehydration after becoming lightheaded while working out on a stationary bike in the Senate gym.

The senator was also diagnosed with pneumonia in 2016 and tested positive for COVID-19 in 2022, dealing with minor symptoms at the time.
