A pair of freshmen Ole Miss football players were arrested by the Oxford Police Department over the weekend on DUI charges.
Quarterback Rees Wise was charged with DUI — operating a motor vehicle under the influence — and reckless driving, while running back Damarius Yates was also charged with DUI and speeding and reckless driving, according to arrest dockets viewed by the Clarion Ledger.
Wise, 18, had been booked shortly after midnight on Sunday and had appeared to be out of the custody of the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department.
The charges were Wise’s first offense.
Yates, 19, was booked early Sunday morning at 2:50 a.m. and it was also his first offense.
He bonded out, according to the report.
Ole Miss has not made a public comment on the arrests of the football players.
Drivers in Mississippi under the age of 21 are subject to a different blood alcohol concentration than under normal circumstances.
Underage drivers who blow a BAC above .02 percent can be charged with DUI.
The two arrests appeared to stem from separate incidents on Sunday morning.
Wise was a three-star recruit as part of the 2026 recruiting class and hails from Austin, Texas, where he attended Westlake High School, which produced the likes of Nick Foles and Drew Brees.
In 11 games for Westlake in 2025, Wise recorded 1,968 passing yards and 14 touchdowns while also tossing seven interceptions.
He notched nine rushing touchdowns.
Yates is a Mississippi native and chose to go to Ole Miss over fellow SEC schools Mississippi State, Florida State, Auburn and Alabama.
During the 2025 season for Kemper County High School, Yates rushed for 2,080 yards and 30 touchdowns.
