After his quarterback was leveled during what he described as a “disgusting play” Saturday night at the Coliseum, Oregon coach Dan Lanning got in some parting verbal shots.
Lanning trolled USC’s crowd and its football culture after improving to 3-0 in head-to-head matchups against Trojans counterpart Lincoln Riley.
“Three wins against these guys,” Lanning said, unprompted, in his final remarks following his team’s 41-27 triumph. “I guess if you’re interested in winning football games, you’re from this area, you should go to Oregon.
“If you want to go to a Chris Brown concert, you should go here.”
The comment wasn’t totally random considering Brown performed Friday night at nearby SoFi Stadium.
The Ducks and Trojans have engaged in many heated recruiting battles over the years, with USC winning some of the more recent contests by bringing in the nation’s top-ranked Class of 2026.
Lanning also took aim at the sellout crowd of 75,500 that represented a season high for the Trojans after they were nationally lampooned for crummy attendance in their first few games.
“I’ve watched three of their TV games,” Lanning said. “I haven’t seen a game packed yet, but we were here. It was packed tonight. So I guess when the Ducks show up, right, that’s how you fill up the Coliseum.”
Ducks fans were the only ones making noise in the final minutes after backup quarterback Dylan Raiola had put on a show while replacing starter Dante Moore.
Moore departed the Coliseum via ambulance before halftime after absorbing a forearm to the head from Trojans linebacker Desman Stephens II while sliding.
Stephens was called for targeting and ejected, leading to a chaotic scene on the field as players and coaches nearly engaged in an all-out brawl.
“It’s a disgusting play,” Lanning said. “You don’t want to see it happen. It’s disappointing that it happened out there.”
Lanning said Moore had regained some movement but wouldn’t wade into a conversation about whether Stephens deserved further punishment.
“I’ll let our conference handle what that looks like,” Lanning said. “I’ll let coach Riley handle what that looks like for their team. I mean there’s, there’s rules in place to handle that.”
