In another life, Katy Perry would be Josh Groban’s girl — but in this timeline, he’s engaged to Natalie McQueen.
Perry, 41, reacted to ex-boyfriend Groban’s engagement with a hilarious TikTok video on Monday, May 11. The clip included a screenshot of Groban, 45, and McQueen, 36, alongside a note about their relationship news. Perry then appeared via the green screen effect, wearing a white robe with her hair tied up as she poured a drink into a glass to the point of overflowing.
The “Firework” singer had a sad expression on her face as she made a “cheers” motion, took a hefty gulp and pretended to sob.
Perry set the video to her 2010 hit “The One That Got Away,” a song inspired by Groban.
“Congrats 🥂,” she wrote in the caption.
Perry and Groban briefly dated in 2009. Years later, she revealed that she wrote “The One That Got Away” about her ex.
“People are like, who is ‘The One That Got Away’ about? That’s Groban,” she said during a 2017 interview with James Corden. “He’s one of my good friends.”
Later, Groban reacted to the revelation during an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.
“I was not expecting that,” he said at the time. “That was a double take and a spit of my coffee when I saw that. It’s very sweet of her to say that. I’m very flattered by it. But I was very surprised by it too.”
Groban also cast doubt on Perry’s claim that he inspired the tune.
“I listened to the lyrics of the song. And I’m like, ‘I never owned a Mustang. I don’t have a tattoo. Are you sure that’s about me?’” he quipped.
Reflecting on his relationship with Perry, Groban added, “We were both very private and we realized we were better as friends and we’ve been very, very good friends to this day. She’s the best.”
Groban announced his engagement to McQueen on April 21.

Though Perry jokingly mourned her relationship with Groban as he took the next step with McQueen, she has moved on from their romance. Following her split from ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom last year, Perry began dating former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
“She’s very happy,” a source exclusively told Us Weekly of Perry and Trudeau, 54, in October 2025. “She’s trying to keep it low-key, and they’ve spent a lot of private time together.”
