The top priority, for any and every coach, is to wrap your young franchise quarterback in a cocoon of stability that nurtures and comforts him, and allows him to flourish as quickly as possible.
As fond as John Harbaugh is of “the team, the team, the team” — a credo borrowed from Bo Schembechler and his father Jack Harbaugh — he knows he will ultimately ride to football heaven or die with Jaxson Dart.
So many crown jewel quarterbacks drafted as hope diamonds end up in environments where success is not an option. Harbaugh did not come to the New York Football Giants to preside over the ruination of Jaxson Dart. He came to the Giants to join Dart in a chorus of: “Who’s got it better than us? Nooooobody!”
There were too many leaks to plug on the Good Ship Mara with one draft, but Dart was in a better place when this one ended on Saturday.
