How NFL broadcaster drama became the league’s biggest — and most lucrative — story

News RoomBy News RoomOctober 28, 20260 ViewsNo Comments

Patrick Mahomes is signed to the Chiefs for seven more years, but forward-thinking executives at the NFL’s six television partners are already plotting what it will take to get the former MVP’s froggy voice into a broadcast booth.

Whether it is Tony Romo’s rise and unexpected fall, Troy Aikman’s feud with partner Joe Buck, Greg Olsen’s looming broadcast free agency, J.J. Watt’s quick contract extension to be Romo’s sudden replacement or Tom Brady’s seismic contract, NFL analysts are suddenly television’s hottest commodity — and biggest soap opera.

“After the guy’s name, date of birth and the name of his wife and kids, it’s, ‘How much money is he making?’ ” one sports media agent told The Post.

“Romo’s contract (10 years, $180 million in 2020) got people talking. Players were like, ‘Holy s–t, you see what Romo is making?’ Most analysts don’t make near that, but it got their attention — even though a lot of analysts were (privately) making a lot of money before that.’”
