The friendly confines of Wrigley Field sometimes aren’t so friendly.
A group of fans engaged in a wild brawl in the iconic bleachers during the Cubs’ 7-5 win in 10 innings over the rival White Sox on Monday night, with one fan ultimately assaulting another in a shocking scene.
The brawl even captured the attention of Cubs star and potential NL MVP Pete Crow-Armstrong, who hit a two-run walk-off homer and also homered in the first inning to join the 30-30 club.
“The fights in the stand are unfortunate and somewhat nauseating,” he said, “but you got people in the stands competing too.”
While it’s unclear what exactly led to this ruckus, a nearly two-and-a-half-minute video showed a fan in a white Cubs jersey yelling toward a group of fans standing together a few rows below him, with that crowd appearing to wear black and grey White Sox colors.
One fan could be heard in the background saying during the standoff: “It’s not that serious.”
A man wearing a gray sleeveless tank top started pointing with his hands while fans started murmuring, with one even calling for someone to be removed from the stadium.
A beared fan wearing a blue jersey then emerged and motioned for the group below them to come to him, while the Cubs fan in white repeatedly used the word “b—h.”
The fan in gray particularly seemed agitated during this sequence, while what appeared to be a stadium staffer in a red shirt talked to the fan in the white jersey.
The situation exploded when the fan in blue appeared to kick a fan in the row below him, which led to the person in gray throwing a cup in his direction.
The fan in the white then threw his drink on the fans and hurled his cup in their direction, which particularly enraged in the fan in gray.
Business then officially picked up, as famous wrestling announcer Jim Ross would say, as fists started flying and the fans wearing the blue and white jerseys became overwhelmed.
One video, filmed from a decent bit away, showed nearby fans clearing the area as a brutal four-on-two beatdown of the Cubs fans began.
Both fans fell down while being swarmed, with a fifth fan — who was wearing Cubs gear — coming from behind to hit the fan in blue in a seemingly bizarre twist.
The fan in white tumbled a few rows down, with one spectator again yelling: “It’s not that serious.”
The situation eventually deteriorated into a two-on-one assault of the aforementioned fan in blue before the fan in gray wailted non-stop on him for an uncomfortable amount of time.
The fan in blue held his arms up while the man kept hitting him with his left hand before fans pulled him away, with even a person in the range of someone filming the chaotic mess from a good distance away saying: “Jesus Christ, get in there security.”
One X user shared a photo of the fan in the gray top preparing to attack the fan in blue, who held his hands over his head in the shape of an X as stadium staffers stood around and didn’t stop the fight.
The fan in blue appeared to later sport a bloodied lip and seemingly had blood on his head.
As staffers swarmed the area, the fan in gray avoided them and one nearby attendee said: “He’s got to go to jail.”
A stadium official in blue finally took control of the situation, saying everyone needs to go before police officers carrying weapons finally descended on the scene.
At least one fan could be heard telling police they needed to go after the fan in the gray tank top, and it appeared he tried to flee the scene before being stopped and identified.
A police officer halted his exit and talked to him before one video cut off.
The two playoff hopefuls meet again Tuesday to continue The Crosstown Classic, with the White Sox leading the AL Central and the Cubs holding the first NL Wild Card spot.
