NASHVILLE — Takeaways from Sunday’s 23-10 Jets win over the Titans.
1. The best thing to take away from the Jets offense on Sunday was its balance. Frank Reich’s crew showed it could run the ball early. The Jets ground out a 19-play drive that included 15 runs. Then, they came out throwing the ball around in the third quarter with Geno Smith throwing long passes to Garrett Wilson (31 yards) and Adonai Mitchell (40).
Reich did a nice job mixing things up. The Jets had 39 rushing plays and 24 passing plays, which feels about right in a game where the Jets led the entire game and basically were running out the clock in the fourth quarter. It won’t be like this every week but the Jets showed they can beat teams with the run and the pass.
2. The game could not have started off better for the Jets. They went 60 yards on eight plays and ended it with a Kenyon Sadiq three-yard touchdown run. The best play was a 30-yard pass on third-and-9 from Smith to rookie Omar Cooper, who broke tackles and ran through the Titans defense to the 4-yard line. For years, the Jets have gotten off to slow starts and their offense takes about two quarters to get going. The Jets did not keep the momentum from that drive going, but it was a positive that they started that way.
