Caitlin Clark was as close as one in the WNBA could get without crossing the technical suspension Rubicon.
On Saturday, she finally passed the threshold. But shortly after, the league made a change that will keep her on the court.
The Fever star picked up her eighth technical foul of the 2026 season, which would have meant she would have been suspended one game. However, a source told The Post that the foul has been rescinded, meaning she is back at seven fouls and will not be hit with a one-game ban.
During a drive along the baseline during the third quarter of Indiana’s 90-86 win over the Sky, Clark made contact with an official standing out of bounds, and she was assessed a technical.
A one-game suspension would have meant that Clark would miss the Fever’s game against the Liberty on Tuesday at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Barring any other issue, Clark will now play in that game.
Clark seemed to express the possibility that the technical foul would be rescinded when she chatted with ESPN’s Holly Rowe on the court after Indiana’s victory.
“We’ll let the league decide, but it wasn’t intentional or anything,” Clark said. “I’m hoping it’s getting rescinded, Holly. … I’ll see you on Tuesday.”
Clark, after picking up her seventh tech in late July, said she was trying to balance being herself while also keeping her emotions in check so she wouldn’t be handed a suspension.
“Just continue to try to control your emotions as best you can. That intensity and that fire is what makes me, me,” Clark said. “But also knowing my team needs me, finding a good balance with that. I don’t think I’m going to be playing with that in the back of my head.”
In the Fever’s 20th win of the year on Saturday, Clark scored 26 points and 7-of-15 shooting from the field — and 5-for-6 from beyond the arc.
Clark’s foul wasn’t the only tense moment of the game, as Chicago’s DiJonai Carrington was assessed a flagrant 2 penalty and ejected after fouling the Fever’s Sophie Cunningham from behind late in the first quarter.
