White House trolls Canada, Justin Trudeau with savage post after USA hockey takes Olympic gold

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 22, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

The White House wasn’t letting ex-Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau live down this social media post.

The United States ended its 46-year Winter Olympics gold medal drought in men’s hockey thanks to Jack Hughes’ golden goal in overtime to give Team USA a 2-1 win over Canada at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games on Sunday, and they received a congratulatory phone call from President Trump afterward.

The official X account of the White House used the historic occasion to take a swipe at the former Canadian PM, who had posted to the social media platform, “You can’t take our country — and you can’t take our game,” after Canada had beaten the U.S. in the Four Nations Face-Off last year.

In a quote-post on X, the White House account trolled Trudeau by posting a photo of a bald eagle standing on top of a Canadian goose.

The White House wasn’t the only one taking a dig at Trudeau, with former NFL star Robert Griffin III getting his own shot at the ex-Canadian politician.

“We took your game,” Griffin wrote in a quote-post of Trudeau’s original post a year ago, along with a photo of himself with an American flag.

Hughes scored the game-winning goal off a cross-ice feed from Zach Werenski, which set off pandemonium across inside the arena in Milan and across the United States as fans woke up in the early hours of Sunday to tune into the game.

“This is all about our country right now. I love the USA,” Hughes said in an interview after scoring the goal. I’m so proud to be American today. I love my country, I love my teammates. That’s American hockey right there. That’s a great Canadian team, but this means so much. We are such a team.

“The USA brotherhood in this team is so strong, so much support from ex-players. I cannot believe this. It could have gone either way tonight.”
