The quarterfinals of the 2026 World Baseball Classic are getting started this afternoon with a matchup between South Korea (2-2) and the Dominican Republic (4-0).
The Dominican Republic are one of three undefeated teams left in the WBC (alongside Japan and Italy) with one of the top offenses — in four games, they’ve hit 13 home runs and five players have two each.
Team Korea advanced in a dramatic 7-2 victory over Australia, where they needed to clear five runs or be eliminated. It’s the first time that South Korea has advanced out of the pool stage since 2009.
Today’s quarterfinal marks the first matchup between these two teams in the history of the World Baseball Classic.
