President Trump has threatened to keep Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche in his position if lame duck Republicans don’t confirm his nomination in the Senate.
The president took to Truth Social on Saturday morning to air out two former GOP allies who were allegedly not willing to confirm Blanche, who has been acting AG since April 2 following the removal of Pam Bondi.
“If Senators Cornyn and Tillis, both upset because I wouldn’t Endorse them (they lost, and quit, respectively!), aren’t going to approve Todd Blanche, one of the most respected professionals, according to everybody, in the Country, to be the United States Attorney General, then I will keep Todd as Acting A.G.,” Trump wrote on Saturday morning.
Trump said he would also “push hard to get the Anti-Weaponization Bill, which takes care of those who have been so badly treated by the Crooked Joe Biden (and Obuma!) Administration (I get nothing, although I was treated horribly!), PASSED.”
“Todd Blanche was a voice of reason! It will immediately be back on the table, and I will get it done. Thank you for your attention to this matter!,” Trump concluded.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC) have been openly against Blanche’s confirmation as the nation’s full-time prosecutor — in part due to the $1.776 billion Anti-Weaponization Bill initiative.
Tillis announced in June 2025 that he would not seek reelection for a third term to the Senate, after first having been elected in 2014.
President Trump endorsed Cornyn’s primary opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, helping him to score the nomination in May.
Cornyn, the four-term senator first elected in 2002, is set to leave Capitol Hill in 2027.
