Tony Romo on leave from CBS after OWI arrest

News RoomBy News RoomJuly 31, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Tony Romo will be sitting out the next couple of plays.

The former QB turned CBS analyst is “on leave” from the network “until further notice,” the network said in a statement on Friday.

Romo, 46, was arrested on last week on suspicion of operating while under the influence, according to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

According to multiple reports, ex-NFL star JJ Watt will fill Romo’s role in the network’s top No. 1 team with Jim Nantz and Tracy Wolfson.

Romo, who quickly ascended to CBS’s top NFL analyst role after retiring from playing in 2017, was returning from the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament — in which he finished 35-over-par and won $60 — when he was pulled over pulled over while traveling south on Interstate 43.

One citation viewed by The Post says Romo “drove “in the marked right distress lane to pass vehicles in lanes 1 and 2 during rush hour traffic” before he “cut across the marked gore” to get to where he wanted to go.

The disheveled ex-Cowboys QB told officers he had “zero” drinks and was one his way to visit “grandma and grandpa.”

One officer claimed Romo had an “open bottle of an alcoholic beverage” located on the passenger side of his black Jeep, according to citations viewed by The Post, performed poorly on sobriety tests, and was later cited for “refuse to take test for intoxication after arrest.”

“I’ve heard from all the lawyers don’t ever do that,” he told officers. “So, we’re not going to do that.”

A spokesperson for the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office told The Post this week that because of the allegations against Romo, the case is “a traffic violation and not a criminal charge in Wisconsin.”
