How much will the Knicks miss Mitchell Robinson?
The Knicks returned all but one rotational player from last season’s title team, but that one player was probably the team’s best rim protector and rebounder.
Robinson, whose Knicks career lasted eight seasons, left for Boston in free agency, a casualty of James Dolan’s second-apron mandate. The Knicks’ response was signing Andre Drummond, 33, who is far from his peak All-Star days but remains strong on the glass.
Can Drummond secure as many extra possessions as Robinson did and defend pick-and-rolls equally adeptly? Probably not. How much will that drop-off hurt the Knicks? We’ll see. Regardless, the Knicks need production from Drummond because they’re thin in the frontcourt.
