If Ryan Weathers is somehow able to make it back in time from a forearm injury to be on the Yankees’ roster for the AL wild-card series, despite not pitching in a game in over a month — more on that in a minute — it would still not be his craziest road to the postseason.
That came back in 2020, when he pulled off a jump that would make what the Yankees are debating doing with Carlos Lagrange seem like nothing.
Weathers, two years after being drafted out of high school, essentially went from Low-A to the Padres to make his MLB debut in Game 1 of the NLDS against the Dodgers.
“I mean, I blacked out when I went out there,” Weathers said with a chuckle earlier this week. “I wasn’t expecting, that year, to be making my debut in the playoffs. But it was a lot of fun.”
