Brian Cashman and his front office performed with discipline yet aggressiveness by making eight deals in the last week before the 2025 trade deadline and not touching the best of their prospect base.
The Yankees acquired seven veterans — David Bednar, Jake Bird, José Caballero, Camilo Doval, Ryan McMahon, Amed Rosario and Austin Slater — and used 15 players to complete the deals.
Two of those graduated from prospect status: Clayton Beeter (Rosario trade) has been a good reliever despite control issues for the Nationals (3.07 ERA in 42 appearances). Everson Pereira (Caballero) was traded again in the offseason from the Rays to the White Sox, and appears at least a strong fourth outfielder who can play all three positions while hitting lefties well.
Of the others, just one ranked in a team’s top dozen prospects in Baseball America’s through May update: catcher Rafael Flores Jr. (Bednar), who was No. 6 for the Pirates and was promoted to the majors Wednesday. Prospects (like stocks) rise and fall throughout a season, and Baseball America is an outlet, not the last word. So this is just to give an idea of the level of prospect traded.
