Ted Cruz calls midterm election results a ‘Watergate-level repudiation’ of the GOP, warns ‘Americans will be hurt’ by radical Dems

Democrats’ sweeping midterm victories amounted to a “Watergate-level repudiation” of the Republican Party, Sen. Ted Cruz said Wednesday, after becoming Texas’ last remaining statewide GOP lawmaker.

“2026 was not simply a blue wave; it was a blue tsunami. It was an ass kicking. It was not simply a bad 2006 midterm election. It was a Watergate-level repudiation,” Cruz wrote in a lengthy X post.

The senator, who has previously floated making another run at the White House, argued the disastrous outcome of the election for the GOP must be “reckoned with.”

“When all the votes were counted, the problem wasn’t turnout. Instead, our voters, Republicans, Libertarians, Independents, showed up and voted, and rejected our candidates, voting Democrat instead,” he continued.

“Nowhere are the consequences of this election greater than Texas,” Cruz said of his state, which had long been a GOP stronghold.

Republicans “lost every single statewide election” in the Lone Star State, he noted. The defeated include three-term Gov. Greg Abbott and Senate hopeful Ken Paxton.

Cruz argued that “too many Republican politicians seem like they didn’t understand or they didn’t care” about voters’ top issue, which he said was “cost of living” concerns.

“Tariffs have made everything too expensive, and the Iran war has dragged on too long,” he said, breaking with President Trump. “It should have been brief, decisive, and over. It needs to end, and we should never, under any circumstances, give the Ayatollah billions of dollars.”

Cruz warned that with their new political power “Democrats in Austin and in Washington will overshoot” and may attempt to push a “radical transgender agenda,” new tax and energy policies and “persecute those they perceive to be enemies, especially Elon Musk.”

He also predicted “open persecution, and nonstop retaliation” against President Trump, his family, administration officials and business leaders.

“Make no mistake. Nationally, the radicals are in charge. The communists and the Islamists who have taken over the Democrat Party have now taken over the United States Congress. They will be unleashed,” Cruz warned. “Sadly, that means many Americans will be hurt. Texans will be hurt.”

He lamented “Texas will become more like California” if Democrats in the state succeed in enacting a radical agenda.

The way forward is two-fold, according to the senator.

“One, fight the madness,” he said, pledging to “work with Democrats when they’re willing to be reasonable.”

“But if the newly elected radicals push policies that hurt Texas, raising taxes, destroying jobs, opening the border, releasing violent criminals, threatening our children, undermining our constitutional rights, I will fight with all of my strength to defend Texas and to defend the Constitution,” Cruz vowed.

He also called on the GOP to “rebuild” and get behind “policies that directly benefit the constituents we lost,” namely blue-collar voters, Evangelical Christians, rural Americans, young people and Hispanics.

“We will rebuild as a true blue-collar party, not by embracing socialism, but by being real free-market conservatives,” Cruz said, expressing optimism that “Texas will be red again.”

“We have not suddenly become a bunch of tofu-eating, gun-banning, tutu-wearing pinko commie liberals. That ain’t us. Texas is still Texas,” he said.
