Taylor Swift is one of the most famous people on the planet, so it’s no surprise that sometimes she requires an extra bit of secrecy when she makes an entrance.
While there have long been rumors about her hiding in a suitcase to more easily leave her New York City apartment, the Grammy winner’s most famous stealth means of transportation was the cleaning cart she used to enter the arena for her Eras Tour concerts. At first, fans could only speculate that she was inside a mysteriously large wagon that was rolled behind the stage before each date, but Swift eventually confirmed the rumors were true.
“I kinda thought I might only do it for night one, and then I just got attached to it. I was like, ‘I find this fun,’” the “Blank Space” singer explained during an August 2025 interview on fiancé Travis Kelce’s “New Heights” podcast. “There’s a weird little side of me that likes sneaking around.”

The Suitcase
In the 1989 era, Swift was often photographed entering and exiting her apartment in NYC’s Tribeca neighborhood, but by the time Reputation dropped in 2017, she was famously interested in a bit more privacy. In July of that year, a paparazzi photo showed two men carrying an enormous suitcase out of the apartment and placing it in a car. The snap circulated with the caption, “Taylor Swift being transported in a huge suitcase,” but some internet sleuths dismissed the idea as too crazy to be true.
One year later, however, Zayn Malik — who was then dating Swift’s friend Gigi Hadid — claimed the “Fortnight” singer really was inside the luggage. “She was traveling around in a suitcase,” he told British Vogue in November 2018. (The outlet noted his eyes were “agog” as he marveled at Swift’s ability to avoid attention.)
The Cleaning Cart
Swift initially decided to enter her first Eras Tour date via the now-infamous “cleaning cart” so as not to spoil the surprise of the show for attendees.
“I didn’t want them to see my first outfit and my first look, which would have given away what the first era was before — when I’m walking up the ramp behind the stage, there’s all these fans seated behind the stage at certain angles where they would have been able to film it,” she explained on “New Heights” in August 2025. “I didn’t want that to be the first thing people saw from The Eras Tour.”
She continued, “I wanted it to be the huge Lover motif, and they’re surprised and delighted by the fact that Lover is the first era we’re doing. It’s the first time they’re seeing that Versace bodysuit all lit up. … Once the lights hit that thing — oh, I love that outfit so much — and so it was really about preserving the sanctity of a surprise moment.”
Plenty of Swifties ultimately saw bits of The Eras Tour online for themselves before attending in person, but if they managed to stay off TikTok, the “cleaning cart” helped ensure they wouldn’t know what Swift’s first look of the night would be.
In her December 2024 Eras Tour book, Swift also shared a glimpse inside the cart, which had enough space inside for her to sit upright. It was decorated with cat posters as well as a postcard image of Cardiff, Wales, which led fans to wonder whether she swapped out the framed picture for each new stop on the tour.
The Moving Wall
After Swift began dating Kelce in 2023, she became a regular fixture at his Kansas City Chiefs games, but fans were left stumped when she didn’t make her usual tunnel arrival at Arrowhead Stadium for the team’s first home game in September 2025.
While she was never shown arriving or sitting in her suite, a source confirmed to Us Weekly that she was there — and fans think they know how she got in so quietly. In videos that circulated via social media, employees were seen placing a moving wall in a hallway as someone, seemingly Swift, walked behind it. She wasn’t visible in the clips, but her bodyguard was seen nearby. Other videos showed her mom, Andrea, and brother, Austin, allegedly using the same method to enter under the radar.
