Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team looking to make more history

News RoomBy News RoomApril 10, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Stony Brook’s Seawolves see victory with ease.

The 11-2 women’s lacrosse team is eying a fourth straight Coastal Athletic Association title and 13th consecutive NCAA tournament berth.

“Our goal is to get to the final four. It’s like that every year,” coach Joe Spallina told The Post.

Spallina’s team’s only pair of losses are to No. 4 Northwestern and No. 9 Johns Hopkins, and Stony Brook took a trio of nationally ranked wins over No. 15 Colorado, No. 19 Denver and No. 20 Princeton.

But how they play down the stretch will be the determining factor, according to the coach, whose team is a perfect 4-0 in conference.

“If we could get some of those home playoff games and create a little bit better of a path for ourselves to get there, I think that those goals become a little bit more realistic.”

Taking another CAA title and making a deep run in the NCAA tournament would mean everything to the seasoned group, especially captain Isabella Caporuscio, a junior midfielder.

“Each year, we have our eyes on that same prize of winning that conference championship,” she said.

Caporuscio, who is nearing a 40-goal season, added that the team, especially the older athletes who’ve played together for years, is inseparable and that’s been a major contributor to the winning culture.

“Things that happen outside of lacrosse are really what build the chemistry between all of us,” she said.

“We work so hard every single day, and I think that [a fantastic finish] would mean everything to us.”

UBS Arena will host its first DI college hockey tournament at Christmastime this year, thanks to a new partnership with Long Island University, as the frozen fins will be the inaugural host of the Empire State Holiday Invitational on Dec. 28-29.
