Steve Cohen urges Mets fans to stay course after losing streak hits seven: ‘We will turn this around’

News RoomBy News RoomApril 15, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

The Mets losing skid, despite Nolan McLean’s best efforts, hit seven games on Tuesday night in Los Angeles.

Even as things are getting dark, the Amazin’s owner is trying to look on the bright side.

Steve Cohen took to X about an hour after the 2-1 loss to the Dodgers to say he saw some “green shoots” — a term usually used in the business and economic world for the first signs of improvement.

The Mets (7-11) might’ve produced just one run on four hits, but Cohen, who has attended the series at Dodger Stadium, saw things that make him hopeful there is a turnaround coming. And he hopes fans stay the course.

“On offense, [Francisco] Lindor had two hits including a home run,” Cohen wrote. “[Bo] Bichette got a double hitting it to left field as opposed to recently being right field prone. [Carson] Benge got a solid hit. [Juan] Soto started his running progression today. [Marcus] Semien hit a shot that might have been a home run on a warmer night. Finally, Nolan McLean pitched an outstanding game going 7 innings. Hang in there fans, we will turn this around!”

Lindor, in particular, broke through in what has been an extended April funk. Coming into Tuesday night, the Mets shortstop had not belted a homer or driven in a run this season. He changed that in one swing against Dodgers righty Yoshinobu Yamamoto with a leadoff homer in the top of the first.

That homer brought the Mets home their first run after 20 straight scoreless innings, though they still now have just one run over their last 29 frames.

So far in 2026, they’ve been shut out more times (five) than scored 10 or more in a game (two).

“The urgency level is really high,” Lindor said after the loss. “I don’t think no one here is desperate, but we understand we have to win. It’s a must-win. We’re all trying to win. It’s just a matter of time. We have to get it done. Everyone understands the task is winning.”

McLean delivered one of the best starts of his career, striking out eight over seven one-run innings as he matched Yamamoto punch for punch. But Kyle Tucker — a free agent target of the Mets in the offseason — blooped an RBI single off reliever Brooks Raley to help seal a Dodgers win.

The Mets look to salvage a win in the final game of the series Wednesday night.

Clay Holmes gets the start against two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.
