Stefon Diggs clarifies his stance on where he stands among NFL’s best wideouts

News RoomBy News RoomAugust 8, 20260 ViewsNo Comments

Stefon Diggs has never shied away from confidence, and after more than a decade in the league, that mindset isn’t changing.

Now with the Commanders after signing as a free agent on Wednesday, the four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver is settling into his new home and is planning to maintain his high level of play.

He recently said he would be the best No. 2 wide receiver in the NFL this season, but on Friday, he added a modification to that.

“I say two on camera,” he said. “But in my heart, I’m going to say No. 1.”

Diggs, unshaken by playing on his third team in as many seasons, is expecting to make a big splash with the Commanders.

Head coach Dan Quinn shares the enthusiasm.

“This just made a lot of sense for us,” Quinn said. “We’re just pumped.”

At 32 years old, Diggs enters his 12th NFL season determined to prove that age has not diminished his impact.

Diggs, whose career has also included legal troubles, is coming off his seventh 1,000-yard season in eight years, ending his 2025 campaign in New England with 1,013 receiving yards on 85 catches and four touchdowns.

Diggs has totaled 11,504 receiving yards for his career, 38th in NFL history, and is just 58 receptions away from 1,000 — a feat obtained by just 18 players.

His chance with the Commanders gives him another opportunity to show that he can still serve as a primary offensive weapon.

The Commanders already have a true No. 1 in Terry McLaurin as they continue to add talent around Jayden Daniels, who is looking for a bounce-back 2026 following an injury-plagued season last year.

“I’ve always been productive,” Diggs said. “Hopefully, I can be a piece in that process and lead this team in the right direction. I’m here to bring positive energy and the dog mindset.”

Diggs, who played at the University of Maryland before being made a fourth-round pick in 2015, later added, “I always felt like I had something to prove my hometown team, them and the Baltimore Ravens. I always played with a chip on my shoulder, but the chip got really big when I went home because I always felt like they passed up on me.

“I was right in their backyard. So it’s a full-circle moment.”
