Scottie Scheffler betting odds dip as Masters field closes gap

For the first time in years, Scottie Scheffler isn’t towering over a major field.

While the world’s No. 1 golfer is still the favorite, he isn’t walking into Augusta National with the same gravitas as he has in the past.

Scheffler is currently +600 to win the Masters this weekend at BetMGM Sportsbook, which are the longest odds he’s had to win a major tournament before Round 1 since The Open Championship in 2023, when he was +700 to win at Royal Liverpool, according to Sports Odds History.

It’s been an up-and-down season for Scheffler, leading oddsmakers and bettors alike to shy away from the four-time major champion.

After opening the year looking like his usual self with a win at the American Express and top-five finishes in his next two starts, Scheffler’s fortunes have taken a turn for the worse.

He’s finished outside the top 10 in three straight tournaments since then, which is something Scheffler hasn’t done since the summer of 2022.

Scheffler has struggled with his driver and approach game, and has only kept afloat by some ridiculous putting, which has never been his strength.

He also hasn’t played in nearly a month after withdrawing from the Texas Children’s Houston Open in late March due to the impending birth of his second child.

Even so, it’s tough to bet against Scheffler’s resume.

He’s the only golfer to finish top 10 in each of the past four Masters tournaments, and Scheffler just so happened to take home the Green Jacket in two of those appearances at Augusta.

Betting on golf?

With Scheffler on shakier ground than usual, the Masters field is as wide open as it’s been in years.

Ahead of Thursday’s tee times, there are five other players – Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Ludvig Aberg and Xander Schauffele – with odds of 14/1 or better at BetMGM.
