Rams unveil new alternate uniforms that honor franchise’s storied history

News RoomBy News RoomJuly 23, 20260 ViewsNo Comments

Moving into the future sometimes means holding onto a piece of the past.

And in the Rams’ case, honoring two significant periods of their Los Angeles history.

That was the motivation behind the designs of the two new alternate uniforms they unveiled Thursday night in LA, both of which pay homage to their storied Los Angeles past.

Their “Classic Sol” and “Fearsome White” sets, which were revealed Thursday to season ticket holders at YouTube Theater, are a tip of the hat to two distinct eras in franchise history.

Matthew Stafford, Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie were among the Rams players present at the reveal and addressed the crowd.

More From Vincent Bonsignore

The Classic Sol uniforms celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Rams’ 1951 world championship. The Fearsome White honors the historic Fearsome Foursome defensive line that terrorized opposing quarterbacks in the 1960s and early 1970s.

The 1951-inspired uniform, whose anchor is the yellow jersey the team famously wore, features Rams Royal satin layered and stitched directly onto the Sol jersey. It also features the return of the original three-stripe sleeve design.

That Rams team delivered the first professional world championship to Los Angeles five years after the Rams relocated from Cleveland to the City of Angels. The Rams were the first professional team to call LA home, arriving in LA in 1946. The Dodgers landed in LA from Brooklyn in 1957.

The Fearsome Whites feature a continuous Rams Royal shoulder stripe that mirrors the curve of the helmet horn and a return of numbers to the sleeves in a period-correct placement, while the pants feature layered Royal fabric with reflective detailing and Midnight trim.

The Fearsome White uniform also comes with a new alternate helmet that continues the current look but features white horns on a Royal shell. That is very similar to the helmets worn by the Rams during that era.

“These uniforms are a celebration and reminder of the moments and people that built the Rams into what and who we are today,” said Kathryn Kai-Iing Frederick, the Rams’ chief marketing officer. “Every detail was intentionally designed to honor the grit and greatness of our history while delivering a modern look for today’s players and fans. Classic Sol and Fearsome White represent two iconic eras of Rams football, and we’re proud to bring those stories to life in a way that connects generations of Rams fans.”

The Fearsome Foursome defensive line of that day featured Rosey Grier, Deacon Jones, Lamar Lundy and Merlin Olsen. Grier, the oldest living Los Angeles Rams player, said in a statement that he appreciated the gesture.

“To see the Los Angeles Rams uniforms that we wore 60 years ago on the playing field now, reminds me of the importance of being a team player. We selflessly prioritized the team’s collective success over individual stats or personal glory,” Grier said. “As strong teammates, we supported each other through the inevitable ups and downs of the NFL season. Whether we had those uniforms on or off, we were accountable teammates, trusting each other to do our job flawlessly.”

The Rams will wear the Classic Sol uniform in Week 2 against the Giants on ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” and again in Week 13 against the Chiefs on Amazon’s “Thursday Night Football.”

The Fearsome White uniform will make its on-field debut in Week 12 against the Packers in the NFL’s first Thanksgiving Eve game on Netflix.

The new alternate uniforms and additional sideline gear and merchandise are available at The Equipment Room at SoFi Stadium and RamsFanShop.com.
