Daejon Love apparently gave his alleged NFL career a change of scenery — and a newly surfaced video offers another glimpse at how he attempted to use that persona to impress women.
The 35-year-old, whom federal prosecutors accuse of posing as a 49ers player as part of an alleged $1.3 million romance and investment scheme, appears in the selfie-style clip wearing Rams gear and telling a woman his supposed football career had taken him south.
“I remember I was trying to f–k with you when I was f–king with … the 49ers in the Bay,” Love says. “But now I’m in LA playing, about to play with the Rams.”
Then comes the sales pitch.
Love tells the woman that if she had been with him, she would be “in a whole ’nother ballgame by now,” before adding that he still finds her attractive, believes they “would’ve looked good together” and wants to reconnect over FaceTime.
The woman who reposted the video wrote that she had blocked Love because she could not find him online and his stories “never added up.”
The interaction appears to mirror the broader method federal prosecutors have described.
Authorities allege Love met many of the women through dating apps, cultivated what they believed were sincere romantic relationships and presented himself as either an NFL player or wealthy real estate investor. His social media allegedly reinforced the image with 49ers gear, luxury vehicles and displays of wealth.
Love would then allegedly talk about building a future together and introduce women to investment opportunities handled by Taylor Jamie Chan, who prosecutors say posed as his financial adviser. Love also allegedly invoked real NFL stars Jordan Love and Tyreek Hill to bolster his story.
Federal investigators say Love and Chan received approximately $1.3 million from 26 identified victims, with potentially more still unidentified. Both men are accused, not convicted, of the charges.
The newly surfaced Rams clip is not specifically cited in the federal complaint, which focuses on Love’s alleged 49ers and wealthy-investor personas.
But it makes his apparent approach remarkably easy to see: NFL team, NFL clothes, promises of an elevated lifestyle and the suggestion that dating him meant gaining access to something bigger.
And apparently, when the imaginary 49ers chapter ran its course, there was always free agency.
