The Pirates finally got it done.
The team and prized 19-year-old prospect Konnor Griffin agreed to a nine-year, $140 million contract Wednesday after being at the finish line for the past week.
The contract can go up to $150 million with incentives, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported.
Griffin, an electric shortstop, now joins ace Paul Skenes as the cornerstones of the Pirates future as the franchise tries to dig its way out of years of mediocrity.
“Signing Konnor is a meaningful commitment to this team, this city and our fans. It reflects our belief in Konnor, in this season’s club and in the future of our organization,” Pirates owner and chairman Bob Nutting in a statement, per ESPN.
“Konnor represents everything we value in a player — exceptional talent, strong character, a team-first mentality and a maturity that stood out to all of us from the beginning. He is the right person, from the right family. This is another important step in the work we have been doing to build a winning team, for this year and going forward.”
The Pirates took Griffin with the ninth pick of the 2024 MLB Draft and he spent the 2025 season shooting up Pittsburgh’s farm system, becoming their No. 1 prospect.
The Mississippi native made his MLB debut last week, rocketing an RBI double in his first MLB at-bat.
Griffin went hitless in the four games that followed before going 2-for-4 against the Orioles on Tuesday night.
He recently married his high school sweetheart, Dendy Hogan.
