The Patriots traded an offensive lineman in-division as training camp continues forward.
Caedan Wallace was traded to the Dolphins along with a 2029 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round selection on Monday, the teams announced.
Wallace has played in 10 career NFL games, including two starts and six games played during his rookie season in 2024.
Jordan Schultz reported that the Patriots were going to release Wallace on Monday, but were able to improve their seventh-round pick into a sixth-rounder rather than lose him for nothing.
Miami potentially could have waited for the Patriots to release Wallace and simply claimed him off of waivers and avoid using draft capital.
However, the Dolphins are No. 13 in the waiver order and seemingly did not want to risk Wallace being claimed by another team.
Wallace, 26, was a third-round draft pick who notched 40 career starts at Penn State.
While he has plenty of experience playing tackle, he was listed as a guard by the Patriots before his release.
Miami needs some offensive line depth, as quarterback Malik Willis is in a tough spot behind the uninspiring unit of left tackle Patrick Paul, Kadyn Proctor, Aaron Brewer, Jonah Savalinaea and Austin Jackson.
Wallace is currently listed as the backup guard to Savalinaea, as the team hopes he can provide some insurance in in interior of the line.
Miami has a totally revamped offense as Jeff Hatley has taken over for the Dolphins after the Mike McDaniel-Tua Tagovailoa era ended after the 2025 season.
