Pat McAfee’s wife, Samantha McAfee, actually seemed thankful that Jelly Roll slammed her husband through a table at WWE Wrestlemania 42 on Sunday, April 19.
“First morning since 2017 babe is completely out of the wrestling business, thanks @jellyroll615,” she wrote via her Instagram Story over a photo of Pat, 38, lying shirtless in a hotel bed, and sipping what appears to be a cup of coffee.
Jelly Roll, 41, shared the post to his own Story, writing, “It was my pleasure. Honestly.”
Pat confirmed that he is, in fact, done with wrestling with a statement on the Pat McAfee Show on Monday, April 20.
“The good news is, the business doesn’t need to be saved after all. And good for them. And for me, I finished my story,” he said.. “I came up in the indies, IWA East Coast. I went through development, NXT. I was a wrestler, trained by Rip Rogers…Get to WWE, commentated, lucky to do that. Did pre-shows, lucky to do that. Wrestled, lucky to do that. Reffed, lucky to do that. Managed, lucky to do that. It’s been a hell of a run. Thank you, wrestling. It was an honor to be over there.”
Jelly Roll and Pat, two controversial additions to the 2026 wrestling showcase in Paradise, Nevada, put on quite the show, leading to the ESPN host being stretchered out of Allegiant Stadium.
Pat was announcing the main event between WWE Champion Cody Rhodes and challenger Randy Orton when Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, entered the fray. After Rhodes, 40, threw Pat onto a table, the country singer leapt into the air and slammed his elbow into Pat’s chest, sending him and the table to the ground.
The ESPN host let fans know he was OK as he was being taken out of the stadium by giving the crowd the middle finger.
Pat later returned to the event in a referee’s uniform and wearing a neck brace.
Before Wrestlemania 42, WWE star The Miz defended Jelly Roll and Pat amid backlash for their inclusion in the event.
“A lot of people will get upset about celebrities coming into WWE,” The Miz, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly on Thursday, April 16, while promoting Prime Video’s American Gladiators. “I’ve always said this: I want celebrities to come in. Because I want a new crop of people who might not watch WWE, but they might be fans of the celebrity. When they come in, I guarantee we will make them a fan because no one does what we do better than us. We are the best at entertainment.”
The Miz continued, “It’s interesting that people are talking like this, because isn’t WrestleMania season the time to make the most noise? And who makes the most noise? More than anybody? Pat McAfee and his big mouth. Sometimes he needs someone to shut it. I believe that person is going to be Cody Rhodes. Randy Orton, though, man. I’ll tell you what, you’re going to attach yourself to someone, Pat knows who to attach himself to. Randy Orton is a GOAT. He’s the person who taught me in the ring how to be a top-tier talent.”
