Julia Filippo revealed she was thrust into the spotlight after a faux feud with two fellow social media stars — Camilla Araujo and Sophie Rain.
“She would just troll the internet. That’s how she blew up,” Filippo, 23, said of Araujo during a Monday, April 13, appearance on Gia Guidice’s “Casual Convos” podcast, revealing they first met in high school.
Araujo started making a splash on social media three years before Filippo’s rise to online fame, also venturing into the podcast world.
“I was just the girl who would lip sync on TikTok,” she admitted. Araujo was often inviting Filippo to join her and offered her an assistant gig, which Filippo accepted before appearing on her podcast.
As for her claim to fame? “We started this fake beef. We got introduced to Sophie Rain, and we, like blew up, for this girl drama … And we started the Bop house,” Filippo said, revealing it was a domino effect from there as she started doing TikTok clips and creating more social media content.
When asked what the phony drama stemmed from, Filippo said it was over a perceived friendship betrayal.
“I left Camilla to be Sophie Rain’s assistant,” she explained. “I stole her dogs, which was not actually real.”
She continued, “The internet thought I was a really bad friend, which actually took a really big toll on me,” noting she has learned not to read the comments because “anything you do, someone is going to have a problem with it.”
“I was really depressed,” she said, noting they stopped the beef and “all became ‘friends again’ just by hugging.”
Filippo now boasts a following of 1 million on Instagram and 3.7 on TikTok.
“I show a whole different side of me,” Filippo said about what she posts online. Araujo has nearly 6 million followers on IG and 10 million followers on TikTok.
Rain, 23, has 8.7 million followers on Instagram and 15 million on TikTok.
During her podcast interview, Filippo shared that she grew up in North Carolina in a “pretty small family,” but was always surrounded by friends. Filippo said she was considering a career in child development and teaching before discovering the pay was much lower than she anticipated.
Filippo said after her online success, she decided to join OnlyFans with the support of her mom. She is now using her “life-changing” money to support herself and her family.
