The Jaxson Dart news hit Odell Beckham Jr. like a ton of bricks.
Dart, one day after injuring his knee in the first quarter of Monday night’s loss to the Rams, likely suffered something worse than initially believed and could need season-ending surgery, ESPN first reported Tuesday.
That latest update seemed to hit Beckham particularly hard.
“Prayers up for my brother 6,” Beckham wrote on X on Tuesday afternoon. “Seeing the news is one thing but it’s harder until u actually see it.”
Dart took a big hit from the Rams’ Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart, which kept him down on the SoFi Stadium turf before he limped off the field and toward the locker room.
Initially deemed questionable to return, Dart was then ruled out, though he returned to the sideline in street clothes as backup Jameis Winston struggled in the lopsided loss.
After the game, head coach John Harbaugh didn’t go into detail about the nature of the injury but said it was likely in the “neighborhood” of an MCL sprain and not the “devastating outcome” it could have been.
However, as ESPN reported Tuesday, further testing revealed the severity of the injury was such that it could sideline Dart for the remainder of the season.
Harbaugh, addressing reporters Tuesday, again did not go into detail about Dart’s ailment.
“Evaluations are ongoing,” Harbaugh said. “We haven’t got any final decisions yet, we’ve learned a lot more. I wouldn’t want to share too much until decisions get made.”
The first-round pick out of Ole Miss got off to a roaring start in his second NFL season when he led the Giants to a win over the rival Cowboys in Week 1. He completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns with a career-best 134.2 passer rating.
But for now, it seems the Giants will have to rely on Winston under center after he flopped in his 2026 debut, getting held to 111 yards passing (on a 40.7 percent completion rate) with one interception and no touchdowns.
“Absolute faith in all our players. That’s why all the guys are here. Jameis is one of our guys who obviously is here for a reason. He’s a very good football player,” Harbaugh added. “That would go for any position, any player on our team.
“Injuries in the NFL are part of it, at any position.”
