Former President Barack Obama on Thursday hailed the Gaza cease-fire deal brokered by President Trump – but failed to mention the commander in chief’s name.
The glaring omission of “Trump” in Obama’s social media post celebrating that the “end to the conflict is within sight” outraged administration officials, the president’s supporters and members of his family on X.
“After two years of unimaginable loss and suffering for Israeli families and the people of Gaza, we should all be encouraged and relieved that an end to the conflict is within sight; that those hostages still being held will be reunited with their families; and that vital aid can start reaching those inside Gaza whose lives have been shattered,” Obama’s post read.
“More than that, though, it now falls on Israelis and Palestinians, with the support of the U.S. and the entire world community, to begin the hard task of rebuilding Gaza – and to commit to a process that, by recognizing the common humanity and basic rights of both peoples, can achieve a lasting peace,” the former president added.
The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., quickly jumped on Obama for not mentioning his father’s name.
“I’ll finish it for you. ‘Thank you, Donald Trump,’” Don Jr., wrote on X.
“Couldn’t bring himself to credit Trump. What a small man,” Fox News columnist David Marcus tweeted.
Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) fumed that Obama “just can’t do it.”
“You can’t bring yourself to say Trump’s name or give him any credit,” Steube wrote on X. “The fact is President Trump has been cleaning up yours and Biden’s Middle East messes since the day he arrived in Washington — from the disastrous Iran deal to the failures in Gaza.”
“Say his name, Barack!”
“He couldn’t even utter Trump’s name,” Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) observed.
“Obama was the most divisive President in modern American history and even in a moment of great accomplishment and peace he couldn’t be a unifier. Sad,” the senator added.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung called on Obama to “Say his name… PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Here’s the latest on the Gaza cease-fire deal
Under the terms of the breakthrough peace agreement, Hamas has agreed to release all hostages the terror group has kept captive in Gaza for the last two years early next week.
Meanwhile, Israel will release numerous Palestinian prisoners and be forced to withdraw troops from some parts of Gaza.
Both Gazans and Israelis have praised Trump – with some calling for him to receive the Nobel Peace Prize – for shepherding the deal that could end the nearly two-year-long war in the region.
