Michelle Pfeiffer Clears Up Hollywood Retirement Rumors: ‘It’s the Most Ridiculous Thing’

News RoomBy News RoomAugust 21, 20263 ViewsNo Comments

Michelle Pfeiffer is clearing up rumors that she’s ready to call it a day.

The Oscar nominee, 68, recently said she’d happily forgo starring in another movie because she’s found so much joy acting in television shows like The Madison and Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Thursday, August 20, host Jimmy Fallon pointed out that some news outlets reported her remarks as a retirement announcement. (“Michelle Pfeiffer hints at Hollywood retirement,” read one headline shown by Fallon.)

“It’s the most ridiculous thing. They’re always saying that I’m retiring. I never said [that]. … Where does it say I’m retiring?” Pfeiffer asked Fallon.

Fallon responded, “You kind of hinted at it.”

Pfeiffer then went on to clarify what she meant, explaining that she has enjoyed working with larger casts.

“All I said was I really love working with an ensemble cast. I said something about, ‘I never wanna star in another movie,’ and they took that out of context,” she said. “Of course I wanna star in another movie.”

“I’ve done three ensemble pieces in a row … it’s wonderful to be able to live with a character for such an extended period of time and you can really just go deeper and find all of the different layers,” she continued. “But it’s also really wonderful, and most important to me, that I get to work with all of this talent. It’s an embarrassment of riches.”

Pfeiffer recently starred alongside Kurt Russell, Beau Garrett and Patrick J. Adams in Taylor Sheridan’s hit Paramount+ drama The Madison and opposite Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman and Nick Offerman in Apple TV comedy Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

Reflecting on her recent television roles, Pfeiffer said during a panel discussion earlier this month, “I never want to star in another movie, I swear to God. I only want to do ensemble pieces. It’s so much more fun, I love it so much.”

“I’ve just been so bowled over by the female performances on television, and honestly, they’re just really owning TV,” she gushed, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles, based on the novel by Rufi Thorpe, was written and created by Pfeiffer’s husband, veteran television writer and producer David E. Kelley of Ally McBeal fame.

During Thursday’s interview on The Tonight Show, Fallon reminded Pfeiffer that during a previous visit she said she’d never work with her husband.

“I read the book and I just fell in love with the book,” she said of collaborating with Kelley on Margo’s Got Money Troubles.

She added, “It was effortless. The writing is so good. He doesn’t really come to the set much, so it was kind of easy. It wasn’t really any different.”
