Mexico fans celebrate latest World Cup win from coast to coast

Mexico versus South Korea was one of the early must-watch matches of the 2026 World Cup.

The two passionate fan bases brought energy and excitement Thursday to Estadio Akron in Guadalajara for the contest.

The first half of the match didn’t live up to expectations as many fans were disappointed by the lackluster 45 minutes. However, all the action came in the second half with Mexico scoring on a defensive error by South Korea goalkeeper Kim Seung-Gyu.

Seung-Gyu collided with his teammate and dropped the ball, which allowed Luis Romo to score. The goal was all Mexico needed to clinch Group A on Thursday night.

The monumental 1-0 triumph was celebrated around the United States and elsewhere by Mexico fans. Video footage captured large groups of people celebrating Mexico’s victory over South Korea in San Jose, Dallas, Chicago, Mexico City and more.

The excitement for the World Cup has highlighted the diversity of the United States as fans have taken over a number of hosting cities to cheer on their team.

Koreatown is a prime example of the World Cup mania as the neighborhood has deep ties to the Korean and Mexican communities. Fans of both countries gathered throughout Koreatown to partake in festivities Thursday.

From Orange County to San Francisco, several watch parties transpired throughout California for the high-stakes battle.

After Mexico defeated South Korea, a reported 400,000 people showed up at The Angel of Independence in Mexico City to celebrate.

The festivities for World Cup fans continue Friday for USA’s matchup against Australia at Lumen Field.
