The Mets will still field a roster this season and send out one of their better pitchers in Christian Scott on Wednesday against the Guardians.
It was previously expected to be McLean on the bump for the team as they shift things around following the trade deadline that depleted their major league roster of talent.
The Guardians, who are firmly fighting for a playoff spot in the American League, have opened as short favorites on Wednesday evening and will send Tanner Bibee (4-11, 3.81 ERA) to the hill.
Bibee has been about league average this year, but has hit a strong stretch of late, allowing just 8 earned runs over his last four starts (2.88 ERA). Typically, Bibee wouldn’t be the pitcher I’d be targeting for an under bet, but if there’s one lineup that can make him look like Cy Young, it’s the Mets.
The Mets offense lost some key talent at the deadline, and it wasn’t good before that; they failed to score more than three runs in five of their last six games.
They’ve scored 11 runs in that time span.
While the offense has been suspect, their pitching can be looked at as a small bright spot.
Scott is in the midst of what many may describe as a breakout season, as July was the best month of his career, pitching to a 2.59 ERA with 32 strikeouts in 24 innings.

Both of these teams are light-hitting in general, so these pitchers who are already in decent form could look better.
The Mets are 27th in baseball in runs scored while the Guardians are 29th.
Cleveland also scores .5 runs per first inning, seventh worst in all of baseball, while the Mets average .46, fifth worst in the major leagues.
No runs to be scored in the first inning comes in at -137 on Kalshi and is a definite bet for me.
When the first half moneyline releases, likely at over/under 4.5, take the under as long as it’s not juiced any more than -120.
