A Democratic congresswoman bizarrely pressed Secretary of State Marco Rubio on the fit of shoes gifted to him by President Trump during a hearing that went haywire before the Foreign Affairs committee.
California Rep. Sara Jacobs led the charge Wednesday against what she called Rubio’s inability to “admit facts” on the Iran war – and mentioned a pair of dress shoes Trump gave him that were apparently “too big” as evidence.
“Mr. Secretary, it seems like you have an issue admitting facts… You couldn’t admit the shoes the president bought you were too big,” Jacobs said.
Rubio had no idea what she was even referring to.
“I don’t know about the shoes, I mean, [Trump] gave me some Florsheim shoes that are actually pretty good, they fit fine, I don’t know what she’s talking about,” the perplexed secretary said.
Earlier this year, Trump reportedly gifted Rubio and Vice President JD Vance pairs of black dress shoes, but photos showed that they appeared to be a size too big for the men.
Jacobs schmoozed up to Rubio in an attempt to save her odd, meandering argument.
“Your shoes look very nice today, Mr. Secretary,” she said.
Rubio then handily schooled the wayward Democrats.
“How can you see them? They’re way down here. We’re talking about shoes. Are you guys kidding me? I mean, is this the Foreign Affairs committee or is this, like, a circus? What is this?” he said.
Rubio later guffawed at an “absurd and ridiculous” line of questioning about Trump’s sleeping habits. He insisted that the president displays remarkable energy and stays awake during long trips abroad.
