March madness hero Braylon Mullins decides to run it back with UConn for sophomore year

News RoomBy News RoomApril 18, 20263 ViewsNo Comments

UConn’s March Madness hero will be staying put this summer.

Braylon Mullins decided he will be returning to the Huskies for his sophomore season, he announced Saturday in an Instagram post.

“Unfinished business,” Mullins captioned the post.

Mullins made himself one of the memorable figures in the NCAA Tournament with his heart-stopping buzzer-beater 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left to send UConn to the Final Four for the third time in four seasons in a victory over No. 1 Duke.

After the moment, Mullins and his high school sweetheart, Kylee Beranek, celebrated in a hotel room where Beranek was seen in a TikTok video dancing and hugging Mullins to the song “Goin’ Back To Indiana” by The Jackson 5.

Later on in the Final Four, Mullins delivered yet again, swishing the biggest shot of the Huskies’ win over Illinois.

He hit a trey with 52.1 seconds remaining, which extended UConn’s lead to seven. He finished the game with 15 points.

Mullins’ return message is clear.

He is after his first national championship of his own after the Huskies fell to Michigan in the title game, UConn’s first loss in the championship game in program history.

But UConn isn’t satisfied just running it back.

UConn took even more from Duke on Saturday, picking up Nikolas Khamenia in a transfer.

The fellow rising sophomore averaged 5.7 points (44.4 percent shooting from the floor), 3.3 rebounds and one assist per game in 38 games last season. He took on a bigger role as the season went on, playing at least 22 minutes in six of the Blue Devils’ seven ACC and NCAA Tournament games.
