Luke Weaver is a post trade deadline fantasy baseball waiver wire target to consider

The MLB trade deadline is notoriously chaotic, but for fantasy baseball managers, it presents one of the single best opportunities to reshape a roster on the waiver wire.

When contenders acquire proven setup men, non-contenders trade away established closers, injured stars linger on the shelf, and entire bullpen hierarchies crumble and rebuild themselves overnight.

If you are looking to add saves to your fantasy pitching staff for the stretch run, tracking these post-deadline bullpen upheavals isn’t just helpful, it is essential.

Though fantasy managers often focus on the flashy starting pitchers or sluggers who change uniforms, quiet bullpen moves frequently hold the key to winning close fantasy matchups.

A single closer emerging from the trade chaos can instantly transform your pitching metrics, delivering high-leverage saves alongside dominant ratio relief.

Take the Pirates’ recent acquisition of Luke Weaver from the Mets.

Weaver’s change of scenery gives him an immediate, massive surge in fantasy value, as he is expected to serve as the Pirates’ primary closer. Though he has yet to make an official appearance for Pittsburgh as of Friday, the team’s depth chart already has him slotted directly into the ninth-inning role.

His standing as the primary save candidate is well-earned. Weaver has been nothing short of dominant on the mound, allowing just one earned run over a 32-inning span stretching all the way back to April 30.

That level of efficiency is impressive on its own, but it becomes even more tantalizing for fantasy managers when combined with his sharp 26.6 percent strikeout rate.

In Pittsburgh, Weaver isn’t just an option to pick up cheap saves, his elite, high-leverage efficiency means he can stabilize your WHIP and ERA while boosting your strikeout totals down the stretch.

Another bullpen arm suddenly positioned for high-leverage work is right-hander Ryan Zeferjahn. Recently acquired by the Cubs, Zeferjahn brings swing-and-miss stuff that immediately puts him in line to harvest ninth-inning opportunities.

He features an extremely impressive 33.3 percent strikeout rate that makes him an elite target for fantasy managers looking for pure raw power at the back end of a bullpen.

With Daniel Palencia still on the injured list, the Cubs lack a settled closer, paving the way for Zeferjahn to see a steady stream of ninth-inning chances. Pitchers who miss bats at a 33.3 percent clip rarely stay hidden on waiver wires for long, especially when high-leverage situations are up for grabs.

The end of the trade deadline marks a critical transition period in fantasy baseball.

Keep a close eye on updated depth charts, target high-strikeout relievers like Weaver and Zeferjahn who are stepping into defined high-leverage roles, and strike fast.

Adding saves late in the season doesn’t always require a splashy trade of your own. Sometimes, it just takes spotting the right bullpen upheaval before the rest of your league catches on.
