Lizzo is proud of her weight loss transformation.
“Somebody told me, ‘Thank you for giving me a safe space to celebrate my health journey wins,’” Lizzo, 37, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, September 13. “All I wanna do is inspire people to enjoy their bodies no matter what.”
The musician (real name Melissa Jefferson) also uploaded a video of herself dancing to her song “IDGAS” while dressed in a peach-colored sports bra and matching pair of leggings. As Lizzo grooved to the beat, she shook her derrière for the camera.
Lizzo then switched outfits, stepping into a black bodysuit to continue her dance break.
The “Truth Hurts” rapper has been on a wellness journey the past year.
“I’ve been methodical, losing weight very slowly,” Lizzo told The New York Times in April 2024, noting she takes daily walks and does Pilates. “I don’t really see it because if anyone who’s on a natural weight-loss journey knows, losing weight is actually the slowest thing in the world and you don’t really notice it until you notice it.”
She added, “Also the scale’s not really moving. But anyway, that doesn’t matter. I’m super proud of my current lifestyle.”
While Lizzo had long been a body positive advocate, she recently changed her mindset to focus on “body neutrality.”
“I’m not going to lie and say I love my body every day,” Lizzo explained to The Times. “The bottom line is, the way you feel about your body changes every single day. There are some days I adore my body, and others when I don’t feel completely positive. My body is nobody’s business.”
Lizzo has also credited part of her weight loss to the controversial medication Ozempic. (The GLP-1 is commonly prescribed to individuals who struggle with weight-related conditions but is not recommended for casual weight loss.)
“I’ve tried everything. It’s just the science for me — calories in versus calories out. Ozempic works because you eat less food,” she said on the “Just Trish” podcast in June. “That’s it. It makes you feel full. If you can just do that on your own — mind over matter — it’s the same thing.”
Since reaching her goal weight, Lizzo revealed on the podcast that it feels like “everything in [her] life is kind of elevated.”
“I do think I look good as f***,” Lizzo quipped. “It wasn’t just releasing the weight. It was just where I was at in my life, my team. I do feel like I am the baddest. No matter what size, at this point in my life, I am on another level.”
