LIV Golf’s plan to finish out the 2026 season as currently scheduled may not come to fruition.
A new report from Front Office Sports indicated a growing feeling among people in and around LIV that the money from the Saudi Public Investment Fund may disappear sooner than expected.
One high-ranking exec from one major partner of LIV Golf told the outlet that “every remaining tournament is on the fence” as the rebel golf league has four more events on its schedule, which starts with LIV Golf U.K. taking place from July 23-26.
There are three scheduled events in the United States after that, which include a tournament in early August at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey.
Of the league’s four remaining tournaments in 2026, FOS reported that the LIV Golf event at President Trump’s course in New Jersey is the least likely to be impacted by the current situation.
“I truly don’t think anyone knows,” the executive said. “LIV Golf doesn’t know if or when the PIF will shut off the spigot.”
LIV Golf’s team championship tournament is scheduled to take place in Michigan at the end of August, but one person with ties to LIV and the PGA Tour said, “I don’t think they’ll ever get to Michigan.”
LIV has already canceled an event scheduled for later this month in New Orleans.
The decision was reportedly made in order to avoid the summer heat and conflicts with the World Cup, though the official announcement came amid reports that the PIF would be pulling its funding of the golf league.
In April, the Saudi PIF announced that it would pull its funding of LIV Golf after this season and immediately put into question the future of the league, which once set out to go head-to-head with the PGA Tour.
LIV executives have been searching for new financial resources since the PIF announced its plans after spending more than $6 billion on LIV since the league launched in 2022.
“We continue to see strong momentum both on and off the course,” LIV CEO Scott O’Neil said in a statement. “We’ve begun sharing our business plan with prospective partners who recognize the opportunity in team golf on a global scale.”
