Knicks’ ‘Champions Way’ sign could go to one determined — and wealthy — fan at NYCDOT auction

It must be a sign.

Get ready for another wave of Knicks mania as fans across the world are now fighting for the chance to take home a piece of the championship. This week, the New York City Department of Transportation announced one lucky basketball fan will score the authentic ‘Champions Way’ street sign that hung on Broadway during the 2026 ticker-tape parade.

The blue-and-orange sign was one of only 30 installed along the Canyon of Heroes for the 2026 championship, celebrating the Knicks sweeping the San Antonio Spurs to secure the title after a 53-year championship drought. The sign will be auctioned through the City’s online surplus auction website — a site where the City can offload items it no longer needs.

The bidding started July 29 at $100, and all proceeds will go towards New York. In just under 24 hours, the bid reached $7,100 with 10 people placing offers. The last day to try and grab the piece of history will be August 12 at 8 p.m. ET.

“The Knicks championship celebration was a once-in-a-generation moment for New York City, and these commemorative street signs capture the excitement, pride and history of that unforgettable day,” said New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services Commissioner Yume Kitasei in a press release.

“Through DCAS’ surplus property auctions, we’re thrilled to give fans the rare opportunity to own an authentic piece of New York City and Knicks history,” Kitasei added.

The historic sign was created by New Yorkers at NYC DOT’s Sign Shop in Maspeth, Queens who make over 70,000 street signs each year and maintain over one million, according to the city. The handcrafted sign is made of a tough aluminum and measures 36 inches by nine inches.

The the City of Dreams celebrated its long-awaited ticker-tape parade on June 18, where massive amounts of confetti are thrown from the windows of skyscrapers. It was the largest the city has ever seen as roughly two million devotees to catch a glimpse of the praised team.

Excited fans took to the streets of Lower Manhattan where loyal enthusiasts were scaling any available surface like traffic lights, scaffolding and lampposts just to get a look at the team and get that once-in-a-lifetime shot next to the blue and orange sign.

“The Knicks brought home a championship after a 53-year drought and now is your chance to own a unique piece of the festivities,” said NYC DOT Commissioner Mike Flynn.

“NYC DOT was proud to join the celebration and bring an extra touch of civic pride to the Canyon of Heroes during this special day in the history of our city,” Flynn added.

Recently, five lucky New Yorkers secured the Knick-themed trash cans as part of the “No Need to Knick a Bin” contest just weeks after a JP Morgan executive lost her job for stealing one at the parade. The city’s Sanitation Department received a remarkable 125,000 applicants, but only a few were given the bins in the DSNY’s Upper West Side garage.
