Alabama shouldn’t expect a warm welcome in Kentucky on Saturday.
Wildcats coach Will Stein wants Kroger Field to get rowdy with the No. 12 Crimson Tide rolling into town.
“I want them in there 45 to 30 minutes before, in their seat, standing up, screaming obscenities at our opponent, making them feel very unwanted in Kroger Field and creating an environment of excellence for Kentucky football,” Stein said on Kentucky Sports Radio on Thursday.
“I mean, that’s what it’s about. You want to see a great product on the field. I want to see insane fans in the stands as well.”
Kentucky, coming off a 45-13 Week 1 win over Youngstown State, will have its work cut out for it against Kaelen DeBoer’s squad, which came away with a 48-10 win over East Carolina.
Luckily, first-year coach Stein has some ideas to make it less hospitable for ‘Bama players.
“Sneak a flask in!” he said. “Sneak a flask in. Again, do whatever you got to do, right? Get your drinks ready. Sit in your chair, all right, and start cheering. And then once you’re done with the drink, go back in as fast as you can, and come right back out.”
There’s some elements of what the former Louisville QB tells his team in his advice.
“One thing we tell our guys: volume reflects confidence, right?,” he said. “Volume reflects confidence. If you answer a question very timidly, you’re not very confident. If you answer it with, you know, some voice and some bass, you’re confident.
“So that’s what I want our fans to know. Like, when they do that, it just speaks confidence to us. It speaks confidence to our opponent. It obviously disrupts the communication from the quarterback, from the playcaller, from the offensive line, creates false starts, creates penalties, delays of game. The more we can get at that, the better off we’re going to be.”
