Kathy Hilton’s Ups and Downs Through the Years: From Iconic ‘RHOBH’ Moments to Pride Drama

News RoomBy News RoomJune 5, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

Kathy Hilton is no stranger to the public eye, enduring several ups and downs throughout her time in the spotlight.

Kathy is the eldest of three, with sisters Kim and Kyle Richards following in her famous footsteps. When Kathy first started to gain notoriety, she was a child actress appearing in several TV shows. However, she became a household name when marrying Rick Hilton in 1979.

Kathy and Rick expanded their family with four kids, daughters Paris (born in 1981) and Nicky (born in 1983), and sons Barron (born in 1989) and Conrad (born in 1994).

Not only has Kathy become known for her reality TV fame, but she’s also quite the businesswoman. However, everything through the years hasn’t been, ahem, hunky-dory.

Keep scrolling to look back at Kathy’s ups and downs over the years:

Early Acting Career

Kathy made her acting debut in 1970 with an episode of Nanny and the Professor. Throughout the ‘70s, she appeared in several TV shows and movies, including On the Air Live with Captain Midnight, Bewitched and Happy Days.

Multiple Business Ventures

In the 1980s and 1990s, Kathy opened and operated The Staircase on Sunset Plaza in Los Angeles. During the 2000s, she made her respective QVC and HSN debuts to sell her cosmetics. Since 2012, Kathy has designed the Kathy Hilton Collection of dresses.

The ‘American Woman’ Feud

Kathy had a feud with sister Kyle stemming back to 2015. At the time, Kyle was developing the show American Woman, which was loosely inspired by their mom, Kathleen Richards. When it aired in 2018, Kyle revealed that she and Kathy were in a bad place over the show, which only aired for one season. They reconciled the following year.

The ‘This Is Paris’ Documentary

When Paris released her This Is Paris documentary in 2020, she detailed the alleged abuse and trauma she faced after being sent to several boarding schools as a kid. Kathy learned about what Paris allegedly endured while they filmed the documentary. Kathy got emotional while hugging Paris as they talked about what happened during her teen years.

“I couldn’t tell you guys because every time I tried I got punished by them or they would say, ‘We’re just going to tell your parents you’re a liar, and they’re not going to believe you,’” Paris told Kathy. “Basically they just told me that so many different times that I was afraid to even say anything or bring it up.”

Iconic ‘RHOBH’ Moments

Kathy made her RHOBH debut in 2021, which came with iconic lines like, “Who is hunky-dory?” Not to mention the introduction of “The Lady,” who works at her house and when she crashed the runway during a fashion show. Or that one time Kathy thought that Garcelle Beauvais was her sister Kyle from afar.

Kathy’s iconic moments didn’t stop when she became a “friend of” either, because she still took a phone call in the middle of the season 15 reunion taping in 2026.

The Aspen Incident

During RHOBH season 12, Kathy was in the hot seat after an incident in Aspen that wasn’t caught on camera. It caused issues between Kathy and Kyle, but also some with Lisa Rinna, who referred to Kathy as “the devil” at the time.

“I can’t go through exactly what happened,” Kathy told Us in July 2022. “I said some things because I was just venting in a personal conversation with someone and it was not filmed.”

WeHo Pride Parade Drama

In June 2026, Kathy stepped away from her role as the West Hollywood Pride Parade after receiving backlash from the LGBTQ+ community because of past ties to President Donald Trump.

“I am honored to have been considered for this recognition and appreciative of the support I have received from members of the community throughout the years,” she shared in a statement at the time. “My reason for wanting to be involved in this year’s WeHo Pride weekend was simple: to celebrate, support, and share in the joy of a community that means a great deal to so many people.”

Kathy added, “Pride is, and always will be, about celebrating and uplifting LGBTQ+ voices, experiences, and achievements.”

Kathy wrote that she would continue to be “deeply committed” to supporting LGBTQIA+ causes despite the drama. She also received support from some RHOBH stars including Jennifer Tilly.

“I stand with Kathy. Nobody works harder and more tirelessly to give back to the community than @kathyhilton. She has repeatedly opened her home, her heart, and her pocketbook for LGBTQ+ causes,” Jennifer wrote on Instagram. “I’ve attended GLAAD award parties at her house, her annual Children’s hospital event at the Abbey, and she has been a longtime supporter of @projectangelfood. Kathy is an alley and an advocate.”
