Jessa Duggar Praises ‘Angel’ Mom Michelle Duggar’s Role as Grandparent: ‘A Calming Presence’

Pregnant Jessa Duggar is happy to give mom Michelle Duggar her flowers as she prepares to welcome baby No. 7.

“Every time that we’ve had a baby, she’s there at the hospital helping us through,” Jessa, 33, said of her mother, 60, during the Wednesday, October 28, episode of the “Unplanned Podcast” hosted by Matt and Abby Howard. “She’s just a calming presence. She’s an angel.”

Michelle, who has 45 grandchildren and counting, has been “the hugest blessing” for Jessa as she raises her six kids alongside husband Ben Seewald.

According to Jessa, her mom is the key to her postpartum recovery after delivering each and every baby.

“My postpartum pregnancy and labor secret is — my mom is an angel,” she shared, calling both Michelle and her dad, Jim Bob Duggar, “the best.”

Jessa said her mom’s help specifically, whether it’s staying up all night with her newborns or cooking and cleaning in those early days, contributes “so much to just how easy it is to recover.”

The Counting On alum revealed that Michelle is also a great help at the hospital.

“She was like, ‘You do not look well. You go home, get a shower, get some sleep in your own bed. I’m here. I’ve got this,’” Jessa said, recalling a moment during her sixth pregnancy when her husband, 31, clearly needed a break. “I was like, ‘Go, babe!’ I know my mom’s got this.”

Once she’s home from the hospital, Jessa said her mom is a go-to babysitter for their brood, who they call “Lolli.” The little ones are especially pleased when Lolli shows up, because she always brings things with her to entertain them.

“She calls it her Lolli bag,” Seewald explained to the podcast listeners, describing his mother-in-law’s purse. “And they’re just like, ‘Lolli, did you bring your Lolli bag?!’”

According to Seewald, Michelle, the mother of 19 children, takes pride in putting her loved ones first.

“She gets so much joy out of just helping others,” he shared. “It just brings so much brightness to her day just to be able to make someone else’s life a little bit better.”

Like her mother, Jessa is a fan of big families and bringing more love into the world.

She announced last month that she and Seewald are expecting their seventh baby. The couple, who tied the knot in 2014, already share sons Spurgeon, 10, Henry, 9, George, 2, and Eddie, 15 months, and daughters Ivy, 7, and Fern, 5.

“It’s always me,” Jessa said on the podcast when asked whose idea it was to try for another baby. “I get baby fever way too soon. I’m like, ‘How can I have a newborn and have baby fever?’ When I said, ‘We should have a No. 7,’ he was like, ‘Alright.’”

Seewald added, “She’s the one carrying this child. … If she wants to have another one, wants to be a mom again, who am I to stand in the way of that?”
