Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s 17-year-old twins, Emme and Max, are getting ready to embark on their next big chapter.
“Hey, the twins. They’re 17! Can you believe that?” Mark Consuelos asked during Lopez’s visit to Live With Kelly and Mark on Monday, October 6.
“I mean, it’s crazy. We’re visiting colleges today, between doing this [press] and the premiere, we’re visiting a college today,” Lopez, 56, said of her twins, Emme and Max. “It’s happening — they’re leaving, they’re going and it’s crazy.”
The Hustlers actress explained she was feeling a mix of emotions about her kids preparing to leave the nest.
“I’m happy because I feel like I remember how exciting that time in my life was like, ‘Oh, I’m figuring out what I want to do with my life,’” Lopez said. “And it’s an exciting adventure, I want that for them. But I also think, like, ‘Oh! I’m going to be by myself.’”
Lopez received some encouraging words of advice from Kelly Ripa, who has been open about her and Consuelos’ lives as empty nesters after their kids, Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 22, all moved out of the house. Ripa, 55, told Lopez there could be some surprising parts about being an empty nester that she might enjoy, and the “On the Floor” singer agreed.
“But also always making a home that they want to come back to, right? That was the goal for me since they were born,” Lopez noted. “Whatever this is, whatever we create, the three of us together, it’s going to be something that they always are like, ‘When I go home, it feels good. It smells like home, it tastes like home.’ All of it. And I always concentrated on that with them. And I feel like we’ve created that.”
Lopez shared that Emme and Max will be graduating from high school in June and that her bond with her kids has grown a lot over the past few years.
“I feel like, we’re close,” she gushed. “We’re a close-knit three now. A lot has happened with us. … That kind of changed things and made it really beautiful for us.”
Monday’s interview was quite the full-circle moment for Lopez, who appeared on Live last year to dish on her twins’ 16th birthday. For their special day last year, Lopez took Emme and Max on a memorable trip to Japan.
“It was a big deal. It was like a big thing,” Lopez said of the trip during a May 2024 appearance on Live. “I figured it was like 16; it was a big birthday for them so we did it. … We had a good time. It was a lot of fun.”
Lopez welcomed the twins with Anthony, 57, in February 2008. She divorced the “Vivir Mi Vida” singer in 2014, but despite their split, Lopez revealed she and Lopez were “like best friends” during a March 2017 appearance on Live.
“We’re just in a really great place, and the kids get to spend time with the two of us more together and see us working together,” she said at the time. “It’s just good for the whole family.”
