Jason Kelce gave a heartfelt shout-out to a business owner while explaining the T-shirt he was wearing under his suit during an appearance on Monday Night Countdown.
The retired Philadelphia Eagles center, 37, responded to a fan’s post on X praising him for “repping Roseland staple Old Fashioned Donuts” on Monday, September 8.
Kelce rocked the shirt featuring the store’s logo as he gave pre-show commentary alongside Ryan Clark, Scott Van Pelt and Marcus Spears during ESPN‘s coverage of the Chicago Bears’ game against the Minnesota Vikings.
“Mr. B made the best Apple Fritter I’ve ever had, and I don’t even like Apple Fritters. Old Fashioned Donuts in Chicago is an absolute gem,” Kelce replied to the post, giving his social media followers backstory on the store owner. “He opened the place in 1972, hasn’t had an off day since. Turns 87 on Oct, 5th. The workers, the food, it was all just a fantastic experience.”
Kelce was referring to Burritt Bulloch, 86, who has become a popular fixture in his community after running the biz and making tasty delights alongside his beloved late wife, Mamie Bulloch, for many years prior to her death in 2009.
According to his May feature in the Chicago Sun-Times, Bulloch moved from Mississippi to Chicago in 1963, and got a job at a local bakery before opening up his now-famous doughnut spot.
Earlier this year, his granddaughter posted a video of him hard at work on TikTok and the clip went viral — garnering 1.6 million views and counting.
“Oh my goodness!! I absolutely love old fashioned donuts. The donut holes are immaculate. When we go back home to visit we ALWAYS stop in,” one loyal customer wrote.
Bulloch, for his part, noted in his interview that the “neighborhood isn’t what it used to be back when we opened, but I don’t worry about that because people are going to keep coming in for my doughnuts.”
He added, “And because of my granddaughter, there’s been a lot of strange faces in here, a lot of people coming from all over.”
