The power of being a Knick and an NBA champion was on full display last weekend outside The Twenty Two New York when Jalen Brunson and Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. entered the club at the same time.
A video of the moment has since gone viral as the two — Brunson accompanied by his wife Ali, Porter with former Denver Nuggets teammate Peyton Watson — had very different experiences walking into the Flatiron District venue for a World Cup after-party hosted by Justin Bieber.
Porter, who just completed his first season in Brooklyn, had to check in at the front door of the club, while Brunson and his wife walked right in to cheers and flashing lights from the cameras of paparazzi stationed outside.
“Mr. Brunson, how are you?” the security guard even asked as he entered.
The moment, which was captured on video, quickly spread around the internet as another sign of the divide between what it’s like being a member of the Knicks in the Big Apple and being part of the Nets.
Brunson has reached superstar status in New York since joining the Knicks, and his efforts in helping the Knicks win their first championship in 53 years have all but cemented his status as a New York sports legend.
Porter and Watson did walk in after checking without any issues, and he was far from the only celeb who did have to check in before entering the venue.
TikTok star and influencer Alix Earl also had to check in right behind the Nets star before she posed for the paps waiting outside.
And a paparazzi account on Instagram posted a video of Team USA hockey stars Jack and Quinn Hughes appearing to have trouble getting into the venue after it reached capacity, the security guard seemed to tell them.
Jack Hughes has been a star for the Devils since he entered the NHL in 2019 and helped the United States win Gold at the Olympics this past winter.
