The Masked Singer contestant Jack Wagner is grateful he had the opportunity to perform — and be unmasked — during Ozzfest Night.
“I’m just kind of a rocker from the ‘60s and ‘70s. I’m from the Midwest. I love those bands. I loved Ozzy [Osbourne],” Wagner, 66, exclusively shared with Us Weekly after being revealed as the Eggplant on the Wednesday, March 4, episode of Fox’s reality show. “I think it was a proper tribute. This is a groundbreaking band.”
On Wednesday’s episode, Kelly Osbourne returned to The Masked Singer stage as a judge before the show honored her late father with a special tribute to Ozzy’s musical influence.
The legendary Black Sabbath singer died in July 2025 following a battle with Parkinson’s. He was 76.
“Ozzy Osbourne and the music he did, it was just so rock and roll,” Wagner told Us. “I watched a documentary about The Who last night, and I just love that generation of music, so I think it was a proper tribute.”
The special night also reminded Wagner of the times he got to work with Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, on The Bold and the Beautiful in a February 2011 crossover event with The Talk.
“I did a scene on The Bold and the Beautiful with Sharon Osborne,” Wagner recalled. “We had to do a bed scene, and here we are in bed. Julie [Chen] walks in, and she’s jealous, and I have to hop out of bed after kissing Sharon.”
Although Wagner may be best known for his roles on various soap operas and Melrose Place, the actor is grateful he had the opportunity to showcase his musical talents on The Masked Singer.
After taking off the heavy eggplant costume, Wagner described himself as a “song and dance guy” who has a long history with the arts.
“I’ve done over 40 theatrical productions around the country,” he said. “I haven’t been on the road with my band for years, so it was nice and warm.”
When asked to compare his experiences filming The Masked Singer to Dancing With the Stars, Wagner praised both shows as being “theatrical.”
“Dancing With the Stars is live. It takes quite a bit of rehearsal,” he explained. “With Masked Singer, you get to prerecord in case there are any mistakes for the live recording, but when you do do the performance, you’re voted on your live singing, right? And you’re wearing an outfit, so it’s a bit cumbersome. It’s not like you’re freed up with Dancing With the Stars and with a professional dancer. They’re very different, but think they’re both very theatrical, which I really love.”
