The Islanders are bringing back one of their top defensemen.
The team has re-upped blue-liner Tony DeAngelo on a two-year deal, they announced on Friday.
He joked on X that he wanted to break the news, but was beat to it.
The 30-year-old DeAngelo tallied 35 points (five goals, 30 assists) in a career-high 76 games with the Islanders last season, his second year with the club and his 10th in the league.
He finished third on the team in assists and ranked second among Islanders defensemen in goals, points, power-play points (seven) and shots on goal (148).
The two-year deal is worth reportedly $4.5 million per season, a major raise for the veteran blue-liner. Last offseason, the Isles signed him to a one-year after he had spent part of the previous season in the KHL.
When the Islanders initially signed DeAngelo the move was met with skepticism. He had been a controversial figure in his previous stops.
As a Ranger in 2021, he got into a physical altercation with his own goaltender, Alexandar Georgiev, in the locker room tunnel following a loss. The incident led to him being placed on waivers and subsequently having his contract bought out.
But he has been a model Islander, and now he has been rewarded for his play.
