Internet dumbfounded over resurfaced Abdul El-Sayed ‘Blue’s Clues’ spoof: ‘Can’t be real’

WASHINGTON — Maybe he needs more time in the thinking chair.

A resurfaced video of Michigan Senate Democratic hopehey ful Dr. Abdul El-Sayed spoofing “Blue’s Clues” and dancing to the 1990s-era children’s show took the internet by storm, with many questioning how it could even be real.

Back in June, El-Sayed’s campaign team pushed out the clip of him jubilantly cosplaying as a “Blue’s Clues” host, dancing, singing about wagging his tail, and then getting a letter with the show’s famous animated background behind him.

But the video had largely fallen under the radar until this week, when conservative netizens rediscovered the “creepy” footage.

The former public health official had used the “Blue’s Clues” spoof as a public service announcement to encourage Michiganders to vote by mail, noting that the process began on June 25, but ballots have to be postmarked by July 21.

“Vote time, vote time, vote time, vote time, VOTEEE TIIIMMMEEE!!!!!” he posted on X at the time with the video. “(This one’s for us, 90s kids!)”

“Blue’s Clues” was a hit children’s show in the 1990s, featuring Blue, an animated dog that leaves different clues for viewers and the host to figure out what she is doing.

Social media users pilloried the video, which was seemingly intended to capitalize on millennials’ childhood nostalgia.

Conservative social media users began roasting it and expressing their bewilderment that it wasn’t a deepfake.

“This can’t be real,” Eyal Yakoby gasped.

“So cringe,” one user snarked.

“Logging off for the day,” DailyWire reporter Kassy Akiva chided.

Commentary Magazine editor Seth Mandel argued it was “adorable.”

El-Sayed won his competitive primary against Rep. Haley Stevens (D-Mich.) last week, in what had been described as a “battle for the soul of the Democratic Party.”

Throughout his primary, El-Sayed stumped with far-left figures such as notorious streamer Hasan Piker, who said that “America deserved 9/11” in 2019.

El-Sayed noted that he sees himself as a capitalist, not a socialist, but refused to denounce Piker, chalking the pressure to do so to cancel culture.

Now he is set to face off against Republican Mike Rogers in what is widely seen as one of the most competitive Senate races in the country during the 2026 midterm cycle.
