Iconic Eagles coach leaving team after messy ending with Nick Sirianni

News RoomBy News RoomFebruary 5, 20261 ViewsNo Comments

There was no unity among the Eagles’ coaches in the trenches.

After a disappointing season in Philadelphia, Eagles offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland resigned from the position he has held since 2013, a role in which he helped orchestrate two Super Bowl wins while also acting as their run game coordinator.

Reports are now trickling out that Stoutland was relieved of his duties as run game coordinator midway through the 2025 season by head coach Nick Sirianni and that factored into this decision.

ESPN reports that Stoutland was not consulted about the changes and felt he was no longer wanted.

Stoutland was offered a job on the staff of the new offensive coordinator, Sean Mannion, but declined to return.

Much of the offense’s failures fell on former offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo, who was let go after the season. The Eagles’ season ended with a disappointing home wild-card loss to the 49ers in which the offense was stagnant for large stretches.

“Philadelphia, I’ve decided my time coaching with the Eagles has come to an end,” Stoutland, 63, wrote on social media. “When I arrived here in 2013, I did not know what I was signing up for. I quickly learned what this city demands. But more importantly, what it gives back. The past 13 years have been the great privilege of my coaching career. I didn’t just work here, I became one of you. Stout out.”

Stoutland is not expected to coach in 2026, despite some speculation that he could move on to the Giants with new head coach John Harbaugh.

Philadelphia has long had one of the best offensive lines over the past 13 years, which encompasses most of ex-Eagles legend Jason Kelce’s career.

“There is absolutely no one I credit more with the career I had than Jeff Stoutland,” Kelce wrote on X. “The consistent passion and his eagerness to teach pushed my teammates, me, and our room to amazing success. More importantly, we became incredibly close as people.

“It was more than just coaching and teaching, it was his presence and sense of urgency that was unaccepting of mediocrity and potential left behind. He will undoubtedly be missed inside the building, and everyone that played for him. I am incredible grateful to have played for Stout, 1 of 1 coach and person. I love you coach.”

Philadelphia benefitted from an incredible offensive line during this time with several future Hall of Famers.

Among Jason Peters, Jordan Mailata, Lane Johnson and Kelce, you could be looking at four Hall of Fame-level players spending all or most of their time in Philadelphia while being coached by Stoutland.

Stoutland is also credited with fixing Makhi Becton, a flameout with the Jets, who was selected No. 11 overall in 2020.

Becton won a Super Bowl last season with the Eagles and had a strong season, and was rewarded with a two-year contract with the Chargers, though he struggled in 2025 in Los Angeles.

With Stoutland taking a year off, the Eagles will look for a replacement, though none has been announced yet.
